Dying is an increasingly costly business, with new research finding that funeral debt has reached an all-time high of £131 million in the UK. The research by insurer Royal London found the average cost of a funeral has reached £3,757. This is broadly the same as last year, when the average cost stood at £3,784. It is however 6% higher than five years earlier. The cost is being tracked in the Royal London National Funeral Cost Index, now in its fifth year.
